1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 412 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pride in recognizing the 1-4 Mayhill-Cooper Creek Volunteer Fire Department on the auspicious 1-5 occasion of its 20th anniversary; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Mayhill-Cooper Creek Volunteer Fire Department 1-7 was created in the early months of 1977, when the City of Denton 1-8 withdrew its fire protection from this small unincorporated area 1-9 northeast of the city; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Filing Articles of Incorporation on March 18, 1977, 1-11 the Mayhill-Cooper Creek Volunteer Fire Department became the 1-12 official fire department of Fire District 20, Denton County, Texas, 1-13 on April 1, 1977; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The first fund-raising drive was held at the Memorial 1-15 Baptist Church on East McKinney Street on February 7, 1977; the 1-16 drive was a success, and many conscientious citizens showed their 1-17 support with contributions of time and money; and 1-18 WHEREAS, During the second membership drive, held on 1-19 February 15, 1977, the Ladies Auxiliary was organized; the auxiliary 1-20 immediately began to raise funds to support the fire department with 1-21 a house-to-house campaign, which provided the initial $500 for the 1-22 department; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Replacing the auxiliary with a Special Activities 2-1 Committee in 1983 allowed men to join the group; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Bake sales, spaghetti dinners, and cake walks helped 2-3 to raise operating money; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Operating out of its original fire station on 2-5 Charles Mulkey's ranch, the volunteer department has fire trucks 2-6 built in 1967, 1969, and 1990; it also has a 1973 Dodge 2,500 2-7 gallon tanker on loan from the Texas Forest Service; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Their meritorious work and devotion to duty have 2-9 distinguished this volunteer fire department as capable and highly 2-10 professional; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The residents of Mayhill and Cooper Creek have 2-12 enjoyed protection from grievous loss of life and property because 2-13 of the brave men and women in the department who have risked their 2-14 own lives in the service of the Mayhill-Cooper Creek Volunteer Fire 2-15 Department; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-17 75th Legislature, hereby congratulate the brave volunteers of this 2-18 department on its 20th anniversary and wish it great success in the 2-19 future; and, be it further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-21 the Mayhill-Cooper Creek Volunteer Fire Department as an expression 2-22 of the highest regard and esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-23 Haywood 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 President of the Senate 2-26 I hereby certify that the above 2-27 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-28 on April 1, 1997. 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 Secretary of the Senate 3-3 ______________________________________ 3-4 Member, Texas Senate
