1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 415

       1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

       1-3     join the citizens of Fort Bend County in observing National Crime

       1-4     Victims' Rights Week, April 13 through April 19, 1997; and

       1-5           WHEREAS, Observance of National Crime Victims' Rights Week is

       1-6     a united effort by individuals, organizations, and communities to

       1-7     offer support and assistance to innocent victims of crime and their

       1-8     families; and

       1-9           WHEREAS, The week provides an opportunity for citizens to

      1-10     focus on the need for the development of public policies and

      1-11     legislation that will protect and restore victims' rights and

      1-12     promote public safety; there are 43.6 million victims of crime in

      1-13     the United States each year; and

      1-14           WHEREAS, While many people and organizations have generously

      1-15     contributed their time and energy to improving the treatment of

      1-16     crime victims in our nation, refinements in our judicial process

      1-17     are still needed; and

      1-18           WHEREAS, The residents of Fort Bend County have planned a

      1-19     week of activities designed to increase community awareness of

      1-20     the importance of crime prevention and crime victims' rights; now,

      1-21     therefore, be it

      1-22           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

      1-23     75th Legislature, hereby recognize the week of April 13 through 19,

       2-1     1997, as National Crime Victims' Rights Week and express appreciation

       2-2     to the people of Fort Bend County for their efforts to help victims

       2-3     of violent crime and to heighten awareness of their needs; and, be

       2-4     it further

       2-5           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

       2-6     citizens of Fort Bend County as an expression of esteem from the

       2-7     Texas Senate.
