        1-3                                     of

        1-4                            Consuelo Sada Canseco

        1-5           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the people of

        1-6     Laredo in mourning the loss of Consuelo Sada Canseco, whose recent

        1-7     death saddened citizens throughout the state; and

        1-8           WHEREAS, A well-known South Texas philanthropist and a highly

        1-9     respected leader in the Laredo community, Consuelo Canseco was born

       1-10     in Monterrey, Mexico; she married Dr. Francisco M. Canseco, a noted

       1-11     Laredo physician and surgeon; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, Consuelo Canseco and her husband were firm believers

       1-13     in the transforming power of education, and their support of

       1-14     higher education in our state is exemplified in their extraordinary

       1-15     monetary gift to Texas A&M International University, which enabled

       1-16     the institution to build a nursing facility; on March 24, 1997,

       1-17     the official dedication was held for Canseco Hall, now the home

       1-18     of Texas A&M International University's College of Science and

       1-19     Technology and School of Nursing; and

       1-20           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished lady, Consuelo Canseco

       1-21     was greatly admired for her hard work, her many accomplishments,

       1-22     and her resourceful leadership; she was a lifetime member of the

       1-23     Auxiliary of Mercy Regional Medical Center and the Tri-County

        2-1     Medical Auxiliary; and

        2-2           WHEREAS, Consuelo Canseco was a devoted wife, mother, and

        2-3     grandmother who lived her life to the fullest, and she leaves

        2-4     behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and

        2-5     many friends; now, therefore, be it

        2-6           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-7     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved

        2-8     family of Consuelo Sada Canseco:  her eight children and 19

        2-9     grandchildren; and, be it further

       2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

       2-11     members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the

       2-12     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so

       2-13     in memory of Consuelo Canseco.
