1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 420

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride

        1-3     in recognizing the members of the Movin' Mavs of The University

        1-4     of Texas at Arlington on their recent victory in the National

        1-5     Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Championship competition;

        1-6     and

        1-7           WHEREAS, The Movin' Mavs captured the championship title by

        1-8     defeating the formidable defending champions, the University of

        1-9     Wisconsin Warhawks, on March 3, 1997, at Southern Illinois

       1-10     University in the 19th Wheelchair Basketball Championship

       1-11     tournament; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, Winning 67 to 58, the Movin' Mavs showed

       1-13     remarkable talent and determination and manifested the fine

       1-14     skills and discipline instilled in them by Coach Jim Hayes; and

       1-15           WHEREAS, Deserving praise for their tenacious performance

       1-16     are team members Enoch Ablorh, T. K. Dannelley, Jack Ricks,

       1-17     Cezar Olivas, Javier Gonzalez, Danny Moore, Takk Kerst, and

       1-18     Jon Rydberg; the players receive the valuable support and

       1-19     assistance of trainer Jackie Middleton and manager Adrian Cassel

       1-20     throughout the year; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, These exemplary and courageous young men have

       1-22     overcome adversity and achieved the highest goal of collegiate

       1-23     athletes, and they are a source of much pride to their university

        2-1     and to citizens across the State of Texas; now, therefore, be it

        2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-3     75th Legislature, hereby commend the Movin' Mavs of

        2-4     The University of Texas at Arlington on their outstanding

        2-5     victory and extend congratulations to each of the players, the

        2-6     coach, the trainer, and the manager; and, be it further

        2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-8     the Movin' Mavs as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
