 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 435

 1-3           WHEREAS, A 50th wedding anniversary is a grand observance

 1-4     worthy of much celebration; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Fidela Ramirez and Alfonso R. Jimenez of

 1-6     Corpus Christi, Texas, entered into the bonds of holy matrimony

 1-7     on April 10, 1947, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church after

 1-8     a courtship that had lasted since they first met in 1933 in

 1-9     Cuero, Texas; and

1-10           WHEREAS, The achievement of this important milestone is the

1-11     result of the love, devotion, and mutual respect of two outstanding

1-12     individuals; and

1-13           WHEREAS, The fifth child of 11 children born to Guillerma

1-14     and Jose Jimenez, Alfonso was born on January 23, 1920, in

1-15     Ganado, Texas, and served his country during World War II in the

1-16     United States Army; he worked for the Corpus Christi Naval Air

1-17     Station for 31 years; a devout member of Holy Family Catholic

1-18     Church, which he helped build, Mr. Jimenez has served the parish

1-19     in many capacities; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Born on April 24, 1919, in Mexico, Fidela is the

1-21     third of eight children born to Viviana and Felipe Ramirez; she

1-22     became a naturalized citizen on October 21, 1963, and has been a

1-23     faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church since its founding

 2-1     in 1952; she is an active volunteer in several church organizations

 2-2     and is a Eucharistic Minister; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, God's grace and blessings have been bestowed in

 2-4     abundance on the beloved couple who celebrated their golden wedding

 2-5     anniversary surrounded by their family and friends at a surprise

 2-6     dinner party on April 12, 1997; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, Steadfastly embracing traditional Christian family

 2-8     values, Mr. and Mrs. Jimenez provided a happy and secure home life

 2-9     for their four children, Olga, Eva Marie, Louis, and Rita-Marie,

2-10     and their niece, Jane Campos; they are the proud grandparents of

2-11     seven wonderful grandchildren, Jessica, Chris, Efrain, Amanda,

2-12     Jason, Leslie, and Kimberly; and

2-13           WHEREAS, The joy and companionship Fidela and Alfonso have

2-14     shared through the years are evident to all who are fortunate

2-15     to know them; now, therefore, be it

2-16           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-17     75th Legislature, hereby commend Mr. and Mrs. Alfonso R. Jimenez

2-18     on their 50th wedding anniversary with best wishes for many more

2-19     years of health and happiness; and, be it further

2-20           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

2-21     distinguished couple as a memento of this memorable day.
