1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 440 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Johnny Bilano 1-6 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-7 of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Johnny Bilano, one of 1-8 the city's most esteemed citizens, who died February 1, 1997, at 1-9 the age of 65; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A man who was deeply involved in the affairs of his 1-11 community, Mr. Bilano devoted his life to the service of others, 1-12 and he will be remembered with gratitude for his contributions to 1-13 his city; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Johnny Bilano was the beloved son of Ben and 1-15 Theresa Montalvo Bilano and was born on December 27, 1931, in 1-16 Woodsboro, Texas; he graduated from Texas A&I University, where 1-17 he received his bachelor's and master's degrees; and 1-18 WHEREAS, His valiant service in the United States Navy 1-19 during the Korean War earned him several medals including the 1-20 China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, 1-21 and National Defense Medal; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Assigned to the command of the 7th fleet, Mr. Bilano 1-23 served on three battle ships and witnessed the signing of the 2-1 Korean cease fire in the City of Pau Mon Jan; he was a member of 2-2 the American G.I. Forum; and 2-3 WHEREAS, His work in the education field was notable; a 2-4 former teacher in the West Oso School District, he had served as 2-5 Executive Director of Corpus Christi Jobs for Progress (SER) and 2-6 night supervisor for Del Mar College in the Industrial Education 2-7 Department; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Mr. Bilano gave freely of his time and abilities as 2-9 a member of the Texas State Teachers Association and LULAC Council 2-10 Number 1; he was a devout member of Most Precious Blood Catholic 2-11 Church; and 2-12 WHEREAS, A devoted husband who was proud of his family, 2-13 Johnny Bilano shared life with his loving wife, Dora, and their 2-14 three sons, Johnny Ben, Billy Ray, and Mikel Jay; and 2-15 WHEREAS, He leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment that 2-16 will serve as a magnificent example for those who strive to serve 2-17 their fellowman; now, therefore, be it 2-18 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-19 75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family of 2-20 Johnny Bilano: his wife, Dora; his sons, Johnny Ben, Billy Ray, and 2-21 Mikel Jay Bilano; and his grandchild, Randie Lynn Bilano; and, be it 2-22 further 2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his 2-24 family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, 2-25 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-1 Johnny Bilano. 3-2 Truan 3-3 Armbrister Galloway Ogden 3-4 Barrientos Harris Patterson 3-5 Bivins Haywood Ratliff 3-6 Brown Lindsay Shapiro 3-7 Cain Lucio Shapleigh 3-8 Carona Luna Sibley 3-9 Duncan Madla Wentworth 3-10 Ellis Moncrief West 3-11 Fraser Nelson Whitmire 3-12 Gallegos Nixon Zaffirini 3-13 Bullock, President of the Senate 3-14 ______________________________________ 3-15 President of the Senate 3-16 I hereby certify that the above 3-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-18 on April 4, 1997, by a rising vote. 3-19 ______________________________________ 3-20 Secretary of the Senate 3-21 ______________________________________ 3-22 Dean of the Senate
