1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 448

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

        1-3     recognizing Ray Davis, who has been selected for the 1997 Personal

        1-4     Achievement Award by the Aviation Division of the Texas Department

        1-5     of Transportation; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, Ray Davis has served as the Airport Coordinator for

        1-7     the Cherokee County Airport for the last seven years; prior to

        1-8     assuming this position, he volunteered his time at the airport to

        1-9     make a wide array of improvements; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, A man of extensive expertise and dedication,

       1-11     Ray Davis personally fixes electrical problems at the airport and

       1-12     has made countless repairs to enhance the airport's general

       1-13     condition; when he started working, the runway had cracks, the

       1-14     pavement needed marking, drainage structures were buried by debris,

       1-15     and the rotating beacon, VASI, PAPI, and part of the MIRL were out

       1-16     of service; and

       1-17           WHEREAS, Ray rebuilt the rotating beacon and corrected the

       1-18     other problems, and he has been instrumental in securing state and

       1-19     federal funding for a number of airport projects; and

       1-20           WHEREAS, Ray has been responsible for attracting a large

       1-21     number of businesses to rent space at the airport, including a

       1-22     large fast food restaurant, a telephone communications company,

       1-23     and a medical facility; the airport traffic is now approximately

        2-1     70 percent business oriented; and

        2-2           WHEREAS, The airport has 28 based aircrafts and approximately

        2-3     20 lessees; new hangars have been constructed and all hangars are

        2-4     filled; and fuel sales have grown from 2,000 gallons to over 10,000

        2-5     gallons per month; and

        2-6           WHEREAS, Devoted to his work, Ray personally walks the

        2-7     runway once a week and monitors the Unicom and NDB frequencies

        2-8     from his home; an outstanding example of a thorough and responsible

        2-9     manager, Ray Davis deserves praise for making the Cherokee County

       2-10     Airport the first-class airport it is today; now, therefore, be it

       2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

       2-12     75th Legislature, hereby commend Ray Davis on his exceptional

       2-13     contributions to Cherokee County through his superior work on

       2-14     the Cherokee County Airport; and, be it further

       2-15           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him

       2-16     as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
