1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 449

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing the

        1-3     Kirby Company, which is celebrating its 25th year of doing business

        1-4     in Andrews, Texas; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, Called Kirby West, the facility is a division of the

        1-6     Kirby Company, whose home office is located in Cleveland, Ohio; and

        1-7           WHEREAS, In August of 1972, Kirby West began its operation of

        1-8     manufacturing vacuum cleaners; all the Kirbys shipped west of the

        1-9     Mississippi were shipped from this plant; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, In 1974, a die cast facility was added, increasing

       1-11     employment at the plant; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, The anniversary of Kirby's establishment in Andrews

       1-13     is a significant day in this West Texas town, since the company

       1-14     employs 360 people from Andrews and the surrounding area; and

       1-15           WHEREAS, The Andrews County News will present a special

       1-16     section in its Sunday, April 6th edition in honor of the occasion;

       1-17     and

       1-18           WHEREAS, All Andrews employees as well as guests from

       1-19     Cleveland will be honored at a festive noon luncheon on

       1-20     April 9, 1997, at the James Roberts Civic Center, hosted by

       1-21     the Chamber of Commerce and the Andrews Industrial Foundation;

       1-22     and

       1-23           WHEREAS, The employees and citizens of Andrews are pleased

        2-1     to celebrate the company's anniversary; now, therefore, be it

        2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-3     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate the Kirby Company for its

        2-4     first 25 years in Texas and hope for many more profitable years

        2-5     of operation; and, be it further

        2-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-7     the Kirby Company as an expression of the warmest regard of the

        2-8     Texas Senate.
