1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 451

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

        1-3     recognizing the coaches and the players of the Kimball High School

        1-4     basketball team for winning the University Interscholastic League's

        1-5     Class 5A championship for the second consecutive year; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, With indomitable fighting spirit and drive, the

        1-7     Kimball High School Knights overcame some of the most formidable

        1-8     Class 5A teams in the state in their march to victory; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, The team devoted much time and energy to practicing

       1-10     the fundamental skills of the game and displayed disciplined

       1-11     teamwork in their excellent showing against their opponents; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, Their highly successful year of 38 wins and only two

       1-13     losses is a tribute to the young men's exceptional talent and to

       1-14     their consistent preparation; and

       1-15           WHEREAS, At the end of the season, Head Coach Goree Johnson

       1-16     and Assistant Coaches Melvin Lark, Leonard Johnson, Royce Johnson,

       1-17     Victor Bell, managers Donald Burney and Kenard Andrews, and the

       1-18     dedicated and talented team players deserve recognition for the

       1-19     team's efforts and excellent performance; the final score in the

       1-20     championship battle was Kimball High School 64 and North Shore High

       1-21     School 53; and

       1-22           WHEREAS, Exhibiting perseverance, enthusiasm, and respect

       1-23     for the highest ideals of American sportsmanship, team members

        2-1     Terrance Andrews, Brandon Burney, Toby Connley, Ryan Foppe,

        2-2     Lonnie Gusters, Maurius Miles, Kendrick Patterson, Shanard Reece,

        2-3     Quinton Ross, Jeryl Sasser, Corey Stevenson, Brandon Thomas,

        2-4     Carl Thomas, Ji Thomas, Andrew Watson, and Calvin Williams have

        2-5     brought honor to their school and their community; now, therefore,

        2-6     be it

        2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-8     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate the coaches and players of

        2-9     Kimball High School for their well-earned laurels in winning the

       2-10     Class 5A basketball championship and applaud the team for a job

       2-11     well done; and, be it further

       2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

       2-13     this excellent team as a token of admiration and esteem of the

       2-14     Texas Senate.
