1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 456 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas salutes Ruben Ramos 1-4 for his many outstanding contributions to Tejano music; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Called El Gato Negro, Ruben Ramos, along with his 1-6 band, the Texas Revolution, has a new CD recently released entitled 1-7 Nueve Vidas; in January, the CD was the number two album on the 1-8 Top 50 Tejano Hits charts; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Nueve Vidas is considered a mix of new songs with 1-10 classics redone by Ruben and his group; prominent in Tejano music 1-11 since around 1970, Mr. Ramos has achieved his status in the Tejano 1-12 musical field because his songs capture Latin music lovers 1-13 everywhere; and 1-14 WHEREAS, One of the leading pioneering forces behind the 1-15 popularization of this distinctive and far-reaching musical 1-16 movement, Ruben is a member of the musical Ramos clan; and 1-17 WHEREAS, When he was 16, he played percussion and sang in 1-18 his brother Alfonso's band, the Tejano Orquestra; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The Tejano Orquestra is a blend of traditional 1-20 conjunto, cumbias, and rancheras supplemented with brass, electric 1-21 guitar, and piano; and 1-22 WHEREAS, With a voice that has touched hearts across the 1-23 country, Ruben Ramos was honored in 1987 at the Tejano Music Awards, 2-1 and he gives full credit to the dedicated musicians who make up the 2-2 Texas Revolution; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Recently the Texas Revolution headlined a 2-4 Cinco de Mayo show in Houston at Miller Outdoor Theater for 30,000 2-5 people; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Ramos was also a guest performer at the Inaugural 2-7 ceremonies for President Bill Clinton, along with Willie Colon and 2-8 Linda Ronstadt; and 2-9 WHEREAS, With a calendar full of headline dates and another 2-10 album in the works, Ruben Ramos and the Texas Revolution are 2-11 devoted entertainers revered for their professionalism and musical 2-12 maturity; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 75th Legislature, hereby commend and congratulate Ruben Ramos 2-15 for his outstanding achievements in the music industry; and, be 2-16 it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-18 Mr. Ramos as an expression of the high esteem and regard of the 2-19 Texas Senate. 2-20 Lucio 2-21 Barrientos 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 President of the Senate 2-24 I hereby certify that the above 2-25 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-26 on April 8, 1997. 2-27 ______________________________________ 2-28 Secretary of the Senate 2-29 ______________________________________ 2-30 Member, Texas Senate 2-31 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
