1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 457

        1-2           WHEREAS, The National Hockey League (NHL) is looking to add

        1-3     up to four franchises by the year 2000; and

        1-4           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate commends the NHL for successfully

        1-5     governing professional hockey since the 1918 season; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, The Texas Senate wishes to extend a hardy welcome

        1-7     to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and the attending league governors

        1-8     for choosing to visit Harris County; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, Texas would enjoy having another world-class hockey

       1-10     team, specifically in Houston, where the city and the fans are truly

       1-11     excited about hockey; now, therefore, be it

       1-12           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

       1-13     75th Legislature, hereby encourage the National Hockey League to

       1-14     give Houston every consideration for an expansion franchise.
