1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 459 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing 1-4 the students of Parker Elementary School Advanced Band; they are: 1-5 Heather Boilek, Cody Shepherd, Kayleigh McCormac, Kathryn Rodgers, 1-6 Karlisha Gray, Hana Hairston, Wilfredo Manuel, Freddie Barfield, 1-7 Jamie Leonard, Phillip Pellerin, Daniel Hochman, Hillis Roberson, 1-8 Joseph Mendoza, Samuel Harris, John Mason, Katherine St. Clair, 1-9 Michael Whaley, Patrick Brown, Richard Rath, Mark Chilivetis, 1-10 Jason Busch, Michael O'Brien, Jordan Lake, Ronald Wilkins, 1-11 Melanie Behrman, Alaina Lee, Katherine Pierson, Santiago Romero, 1-12 Shatoyia Miles, Terra Lewis, Nickolas Guerrero, Nathan Kelly, 1-13 Cyril Manuel, Channing Wade, Christine Keith, Frederick Mathew, 1-14 Alexander McDaniel, Jonathan Kabay, Jonathan Scott, Darius Terry, 1-15 Tonio Williams, Conrad Higgs, Micah Pratt, Gerald Thiel, 1-16 Michael Henderson, Matthew Pisamadi, Samuel Knight, David Childers, 1-17 Stephanie Diggs, Amy Luce, Jessie Pitre, Crystal San Miguel, 1-18 Chelsea McCoy, Alicia Texada, Tiffany Eng, Jonathan Kruk, 1-19 Patricia San Miguel, Mark Fulenwider, Dustin Dromgoole, Shaun Greer, 1-20 Monique Townsend, Megan Mitchell, David Smith, Taylor Ure, 1-21 Joe Williams, Kevin Arbuckle, Lisa Jackson, Jarrell Strambler, 1-22 Jonah Martin, Christopher Wilson and Tiffany Blount, who are playing 1-23 in the rotunda of the State Capitol at noon on April 9, 1997; and 2-1 WHEREAS, A Houston Independent School District magnet school, 2-2 Parker Elementary School specializes in music instruction; in 2-3 kindergarten through fifth grade, over 500 students take part in a 2-4 comprehensive music program; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The school is composed of 350 transfer students and 2-6 150 pupils from the neighborhood; the school provides each student 2-7 with an instrument, one private music lesson a week, and group 2-8 instruction once a day after school; and 2-9 WHEREAS, A very successful program, the Houston Independent 2-10 School District's magnet program began in 1975; the program includes 2-11 offering lessons to each student in choral music, piano, band, and 2-12 Suzuki strings; and 2-13 WHEREAS, The parents of the children, the school 2-14 administration, and the school district strongly support its 2-15 curriculum; parents work vigorously to supplement the operating 2-16 budget for different musical groups; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Participants in the school band program at the 2-18 beginning level are taught by Lloyd Hughes, and members of the 2-19 advanced band are instructed by Anthony Maxie; and 2-20 WHEREAS, The success of the program has been so great that 2-21 40 of the advanced band students were selected for the Houston 2-22 Independent School District All-City Band; certainly these 2-23 accomplishments are worthy of legislative recognition; now, 2-24 therefore, be it 2-25 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-1 75th Legislature, hereby applaud the students of Parker Elementary 3-2 School Advanced Band for their splendid performance; and, be it 3-3 further 3-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 3-5 school as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate. 3-6 Ellis 3-7 ______________________________________ 3-8 President of the Senate 3-9 I hereby certify that the above 3-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-11 on April 8, 1997. 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 Secretary of the Senate 3-14 ______________________________________ 3-15 Member, Texas Senate
