1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 472

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

        1-3     recognize Charley Porter Pettis on the joyful occasion of his

        1-4     80th birthday on April 14, 1997; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, Born on April 14, 1917, Mr. Pettis is a retired

        1-6     longshoreman for the port of Galveston; and

        1-7           WHEREAS, A man of solid religious convictions, he is a member

        1-8     of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, Mr. Pettis is the proud father of seven children:

       1-10     Billie Joe Pettis, Charlie Eugene Pettis, Gloria R. Hall,

       1-11     Henry Lee Pettis, Joyce Elaine Ruempolhamer, Linda Marie Stevens,

       1-12     and Shirley Ann Pettis; he has 14 grandchildren and four

       1-13     great-grandchildren; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, Knowledgeable, charming, and wise, he truly enjoys

       1-15     a good game of dominoes and is an active man with an engaging

       1-16     personality; and

       1-17           WHEREAS, Known for his unselfish conduct and his

       1-18     thoughtfulness, Charley Pettis is a beloved member of his

       1-19     community; and

       1-20           WHEREAS, The thoughts and wishes of his family and many

       1-21     friends will be with Mr. Pettis when he celebrates his 80th

       1-22     birthday on April 12, 1997; now, therefore, be it

       1-23           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-1     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Charley Porter Pettis

        2-2     on his 80th birthday and wish him many more years of health and

        2-3     happiness; and, be it further

        2-4           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-5     him as an expression of the highest esteem of the Texas Senate.
