1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 475 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing the 1-3 Public Utilities Board of Brownsville and the Southmost Regional 1-4 Water Authority for its contributions to the people of Brownsville 1-5 and the citizens of South Texas; and 1-6 WHEREAS, These two entities are to be congratulated on the 1-7 proposed construction of the Brownsville Weir and Reservoir; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Brownsville Weir and Reservoir is to be situated 1-9 within the existing bank of the Rio Grande River about eight river 1-10 miles downstream of the Gateway Bridge in Brownsville; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The proposed Brownsville Reservoir will be able to 1-12 hold up to 6,000 acre feet of water, about two billion gallons, 1-13 which will generate up to 40,000 acre feet of water per year; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The proposed Brownsville Weir and Reservoir Project 1-15 is included in the Texas Water Plan; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Water will be released downstream to satisfy flow 1-17 requirements of agriculture, marine, and environmental interests; 1-18 and 1-19 WHEREAS, The extra water will be available to the people of 1-20 South Texas; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-22 75th Legislature, hereby commend the Public Utilities Board of 1-23 Brownsville and the Southmost Regional Water Authority on the 2-1 proposed construction of the Brownsville Weir and Reservoir; and, 2-2 be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-4 these two organizations as an expression of the high regard of the 2-5 Texas Senate. 2-6 Lucio 2-7 ______________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the above 2-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-11 on April 10, 1997. 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
