 1-5                              Wayne Merwyn Igo

 1-6           WHEREAS, The passing of Wayne Merwyn Igo on March 25, 1997,

 1-7     at the age of 66, has brought a great loss to the family and many

 1-8     friends of this esteemed Plainview resident; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Mr. Igo was born May 7, 1930, in Ralls and earned a

1-10     degree in agriculture from Texas Tech University; like many of his

1-11     generation, he was a patriotic man who served his country during

1-12     the Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force; and 

1-13           WHEREAS, A longtime resident of Plainview, Mr. Igo was

1-14     employed as a farmer and as the owner and operator of Halfway Farm

1-15     Chemical until his retirement in 1994; he was recognized for his

1-16     many significant contributions to the agribusiness industry when he

1-17     was named Man of the Year in Texas Agriculture by the Texas County

1-18     Agricultural Agents Association in 1993; and 

1-19           WHEREAS, This respected gentleman further worked for the

1-20     betterment of his community as a member of the Plainview Hospital

1-21     Board and the Hale County Stock Show Board; the proud father of

1-22     five children himself, he gave generously of his time and talents

1-23     to enhance opportunities for the community's young people through

 2-1     his participation in the 4-H Club and Little League baseball; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, In addition, Mr. Igo was an elder at Ninth and

 2-3     Columbia Church of Christ; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Wayne Merwyn Igo was a man of great vision who left

 2-5     an indelible mark on the community he was proud to call home, and

 2-6     though his presence will be deeply missed, his memory will long

 2-7     endure in the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him; now,

 2-8     therefore, be it 

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-10     75th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Wayne Merwyn Igo

2-11     and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family:  his

2-12     beloved wife of 39 years, Shirley Brownlow Igo; his daughters,

2-13     Marci Igo Brown, Shanna Gay Igo, and Mandy Igo Goodwin; his sons,

2-14     Kevin Wayne Igo and Robert Joe Igo; his brothers, Granville Igo,

2-15     Norman Igo, and Dorman Igo; his 10 grandchildren; and to the many

2-16     other friends and relatives of this fine man; and, be it further

2-17           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

2-18     prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest

2-19     sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns

2-20     this day, it do so in memory of Wayne Merwyn Igo.
