1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 481

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Stratford Chamber of Commerce will miss the

        1-3     wisdom and expertise of Joyce Ann Billington Lasley, who retired on

        1-4     January 1, 1997, from the position of manager of the chamber; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, Born on September 23, 1924, in Texhoma, Texas, she

        1-6     was educated in the Stratford Independent School District; she

        1-7     attended West Texas State College in Canyon and Panhandle State

        1-8     University in Goodwell, Oklahoma, where she graduated in 1971 with

        1-9     a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, Joyce Ann Billington married Verlin Orland Lasley

       1-11     on April 24, 1942; together they lovingly raised three daughters:

       1-12     Orlanda Lasley Garoutte, Jacque Lasley McIver, and Lajuana Lasley;

       1-13     Joyce Ann has five grandchildren and one great-grandson; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, The owner and operator of the first kindergarten in

       1-15     Stratford, Joyce Ann also owned and operated a ladies' clothing

       1-16     store there from 1971 to 1981; and

       1-17           WHEREAS, Joyce Ann Lasley worked for the Stratford Chamber

       1-18     of Commerce from 1988 to 1997, where she was the chamber's manager;

       1-19     noted for her honesty and integrity, Mrs. Lasley has earned the

       1-20     respect and friendship of her colleagues; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, The varied and notable achievements of Mrs. Lasley

       1-22     have contributed immensely to the growth and progress of the

       1-23     State of Texas; now, therefore, be it

        2-1           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-2     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Joyce Ann Billington Lasley

        2-3     on her retirement and extend best wishes to her for a rich and

        2-4     rewarding retirement; and, be it further

        2-5           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her

        2-6     as an expression of the high regard and esteem of the Texas Senate.
