1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 482 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-4 recognize one of its staff members, Catherine M. Teague, 1-5 Press Secretary to Senator Teel Bivins, on the occasion of her 1-6 40th birthday; and 1-7 WHEREAS, A native Texan born April 11, 1957, in 1-8 San Antonio, Texas, just four minutes after her twin brother 1-9 Joe, Cathy has lived her whole life within the borders of this 1-10 great state; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A product of the "Me Generation," Cathy has a 1-12 delightful way of turning all conversations around to the events 1-13 in her colorful life, which contrary to office opinion did not 1-14 begin before the invention of the wheel or electricity; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A graduate of L. D. Bell High School in Hurst, 1-16 Cathy strongly related to the characters and plot of the movie 1-17 "Dazed and Confused"; however, her life soon began to resemble 1-18 the movie "Broadcast News"; and 1-19 WHEREAS, A graduate of West Texas State University in 1-20 1978, Cathy soon began a long and distinguished career as a 1-21 radio and television reporter/anchor, including stints at KAMR-TV 1-22 in Amarillo and KSAT-TV in San Antonio; as a reporter, Cathy 1-23 travelled far and wide covering some of the most interesting 2-1 events of our time, including "Operation Desert Shield" in 1990, 2-2 the Mexico City earthquake and its aftermath in 1985, and the 2-3 administration of former San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros; as a 2-4 reporter, Cathy won numerous awards and established a reputation 2-5 for fairness and accuracy; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Desiring to further her education and expand her 2-7 skills as a broadcaster, Cathy returned to Amarillo in 1991 to 2-8 produce and host the show "Perspective" on the public broadcasting 2-9 station KACV-TV, which she turned into an excellent showcase of 2-10 Panhandle history and current events; during this time she 2-11 attended West Texas A&M University, received a master of art's 2-12 degree in communication, and taught several classes as an adjunct 2-13 professor; and 2-14 WHEREAS, A natural-born comic who disguised her true 2-15 nature so well as a reporter that Senator Bivins made her prove 2-16 she had a sense of humor before he would hire her, she continues 2-17 to make her co-workers laugh on a daily basis; and 2-18 WHEREAS, She celebrates her 40th birthday with the love 2-19 and affection of hundreds of friends and admirers, including her 2-20 father, Joseph, who is watching her from heaven, her mother, 2-21 Estelle, her brothers, Joe and David, her sister, "Dee," and her 2-22 numerous nieces and nephews; and, be it further 2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-24 her as an expression of high regard and best wishes for her 2-25 40th birthday from the Texas Senate. 3-1 Bivins 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 President of the Senate 3-4 I hereby certify that the above 3-5 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-6 on April 10, 1997. 3-7 ______________________________________ 3-8 Secretary of the Senate 3-9 ______________________________________ 3-10 Member, Texas Senate
