1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 488 1-3 WHEREAS, Klein United Methodist Church was chartered on 1-4 September 11, 1977, with 165 people joining and committing 1-5 themselves to be God's witnesses in starting this new church; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Houston Board of Missions of the United Methodist 1-7 Church realized the potential growth in the north area of Harris 1-8 County and purchased five acres of land at the corner of Farm Road 1-9 2920 and Kuykendahl to make possible the establishing of a new 1-10 congregation; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Such rapid growth took place that a groundbreaking 1-12 was held for the first building on April 2, 1978, with the 1-13 completion taking only six months; the first service in the new 1-14 building was held on October 15, 1978; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Steady expansion continued, and on January 27, 1985, 1-16 an interim sanctuary with an adjoining office wing and music suite 1-17 was completed which seats over 650 for worship; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Klein United Methodist Church now has over 3,100 1-19 members; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Klein United Methodist Church has had three senior 1-21 pastors and 10 associate pastors who have given guidance and 1-22 leadership throughout the years; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The church is now an active center of worship, music 2-1 ministries, children's ministries, youth ministries, Klein Weekday 2-2 Ministries for Children, adult ministries, Bible studies, and 2-3 support groups; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The church is vitally involved in missions to others 2-5 through "Love for Christ" feeding of the homeless, the Community 2-6 Garden providing 4,000 pounds of vegetables for the community food 2-7 pantry, and the Inter-Faith Hospitality Network hosting homeless 2-8 families for a week at a time; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Other work the church performs is making mission 2-10 trips to Mexico to build churches and schools, supporting the 2-11 Clinica Mobile medical ministry to Mexico, UM ARMY youth remodeling 2-12 homes, and financial and volunteer support for the Northwest 2-13 Assistance Ministries; and 2-14 WHEREAS, Klein United Methodist Church won the Copeland 2-15 Evangelism Award of the Texas Conference in 1990 and the District 2-16 Evangelism Award for 1993 and 1994; and 2-17 WHEREAS, Klein continues to sponsor Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, 2-18 and Explorer Scouts; the Boy Scout troop has been the only troop 2-19 in the nation to receive the Bishop's Award every year since the 2-20 award originated in 1987; now, therefore, be it 2-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-22 75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Klein United Methodist Church 2-23 and its congregation on its 20th anniversary of service and extend 2-24 best wishes for an even more successful future; and, be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 3-1 church as an expression of the high esteem of the Texas Senate. 3-2 Lindsay 3-3 ______________________________________ 3-4 President of the Senate 3-5 I hereby certify that the above 3-6 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-7 on April 14, 1997. 3-8 ______________________________________ 3-9 Secretary of the Senate 3-10 ______________________________________ 3-11 Member, Texas Senate
