 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 505

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

 1-4     recognizing Pauline Durrett Robertson on her many accomplishments

 1-5     as a popular writer and poet; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, A homemaker, author, teacher, and volunteer,

 1-7     Pauline Robertson is a graduate of Saint Edward's University and

 1-8     is a highly respected leader in the Amarillo community and in our

 1-9     state; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Mrs. Robertson was a cofounding director of

1-11     Camp Friendship for underprivileged children through Christian

1-12     churches and was founding secretary for Opportunity House for

1-13     troubled teenagers; she has represented Texas Church Women United

1-14     on the Juvenile Justice Board and the Texas IMPACT Board and was

1-15     the founding president of the Women's Coalition for Change:

1-16     Focus on Poverty; and

1-17           WHEREAS, A highly talented and prolific writer,

1-18     Mrs. Robertson has authored numerous articles for newspapers and

1-19     magazines and has won more than 250 awards for her poetry; she

1-20     received her first book contract from a publisher in 1973 when

1-21     she coauthored Panhandle Pilgrimage with her husband; the

1-22     book is now in its fifth printing; her other books include

1-23     Tascosa:  Writing Site and Mystery Woman, Frenchy McCormick;

 2-1     and

 2-2           WHEREAS, A councillor for the Poetry Society of Texas,

 2-3     Mrs. Robertson edited, designed, and published Bootsteps:

 2-4     Poems of the West--Then and Now and was the author of such

 2-5     poetry books as Field Notes, Borrowed Moccasins, and

 2-6     Fringe Benefits; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, In addition to her numerous awards for writing

 2-8     poetry, hymns, and fiction and nonfiction literature, she received

 2-9     a master photographer rating in both black and white and color

2-10     in 1980; she was named the Amarillo City Council of Beta Sigma Phi

2-11     1995 Woman of the Year and is frequently sought after as a judge

2-12     for poetry readings and as a speaker at poetry conferences; now,

2-13     therefore, be it

2-14           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-15     75th Legislature, hereby commend Pauline Robertson on her talent

2-16     and outstanding literary accomplishments and extend to her

2-17     appreciation for her cultural contributions to our state; and, be

2-18     it further

2-19           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-20     her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
