1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 512 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing 1-3 Helen McCoy Abernathy, who was selected as an Outstanding Texan 1-4 Award Winner in the field of business by the Texas Legislative 1-5 Black Caucus at its third biannual weekend celebration held 1-6 March 20 through 22, 1997; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Born in Houston in April, 1944, she graduated from 1-8 Evan E. Worthing Senior High School; she continued her education 1-9 at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and obtained her degree 1-10 from Texas Southern University in psychology; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mrs. Abernathy took control of her family's 1-12 business, McCoy and Harrison Funeral Home, Incorporated, which 1-13 has been serving the Houston area for over 70 years; and 1-14 WHEREAS, An excellent role model for young women, 1-15 Mrs. Abernathy is presently president and funeral director in 1-16 charge at the funeral home; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The daughter of H.
