 1-4                                     of

 1-5                          Gary Pinkney Pearson, Jr.

 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens

 1-7     of Houston in mourning the loss of Gary Pinkney Pearson, Jr., who

 1-8     died March 22, 1997, at the age of 72; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Born September 19, 1924, in Anderson, Texas, to the

1-10     late Gladys Fuqua Pearson and G. P. Pearson, Gary Pearson was a

1-11     resident of Houston for 45 years; he served with the United States

1-12     Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and was commended

1-13     for bravery on Iwo Jima; he attended Texas A&M University and

1-14     graduated from The University of Texas, where he earned a master

1-15     of arts degree; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Mr. Pearson was dedicated to his work as a real

1-17     estate appraiser for the courts of Harris County; he also served

1-18     in the Texas Legislature for six years as a representative for

1-19     Grimes and Montgomery counties; and

1-20           WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman,

1-21     Gary Pearson was respected for his many accomplishments and was

1-22     a leader in the Houston community; he was a member of the

1-23     Masonic Lodge; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he

 2-2     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,

 2-3     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him;

 2-4     and

 2-5           WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Pearson was a member of

 2-6     Saint John the Divine Episcopal Church; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, Gary Pearson was a devoted husband, father, and

 2-8     grandfather who lived his life to the fullest, and he leaves

 2-9     behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family

2-10     and many friends; now, therefore, be it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-12     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the

2-13     bereaved family of Gary Pinkney Pearson, Jr.:  his wife of 43

2-14     years, Mary Bain Haralson Pearson; his sons and daughters-in-law,

2-15     Gary Pinkney Pearson III and Karen Pearson and James Haralson Pearson

2-16     and Gayle Pearson; his daughter, Mary Bain Pearson; his sisters,

2-17     Mrs. Earl Nichols and Mrs. John Moore; and his three grandchildren;

2-18     and, be it further

2-19           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

2-20     members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the

2-21     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so

2-22     in memory of Gary Pinkney Pearson, Jr.
