1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 522

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing

        1-3     Hanq Neal, who was selected as an Outstanding Texan Award Winner

        1-4     in the field of entertainment, sports, and arts by the Texas

        1-5     Legislative Black Caucus at its biannual weekend which was held

        1-6     March 20 through 23, 1997; and

        1-7           WHEREAS, Currently the Minister of Music at Windsor Village

        1-8     United Methodist Church, Mr. Neal began to play the organ by the

        1-9     age of five without any formal musical training; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, By the time he began formal music lessons at age 13,

       1-11     he already had his own gospel group; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, Dedicated and talented, Mr. Neal became the Minister

       1-13     of Music at True Love Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan, at the

       1-14     age of 21; and

       1-15           WHEREAS, Later he became a member of the Donald Vale

       1-16     Choraleers, and he helped to form the gospel group JOY; his work

       1-17     led to a Grammy nomination for the title song of the album "If You

       1-18     Move Yourself, God Can Have His Way"; now, therefore, be it

       1-19           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

       1-20     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Hanq Neal on his selection

       1-21     as an Outstanding Texan Award Winner by the Texas Legislative Black

       1-22     Caucus; and, be it further

       1-23           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

       1-24     him as an expression of the greatest respect of the Texas Senate.
