1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 549

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

        1-3     extend congratulations to the United Way of Midland for its 50

        1-4     years of dedicated service to the citizens of the community; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, Formed in 1947 as the Community Chest by a group

        1-6     of businessmen through the Midland Chamber of Commerce, the

        1-7     United Way of Midland is the largest health and human services

        1-8     resource in the city; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, Originally established solely as a fund-raising

       1-10     organization, it has evolved into a catalyst for community

       1-11     concerns; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, The organization was renamed The United Fund in

       1-13     1960 and became the United Way of Midland in 1973; under the

       1-14     supervision of a board of directors who oversee the committees of

       1-15     volunteers, the organization helps raise funds that are allocated

       1-16     to agencies and addresses the needs of the community; and

       1-17           WHEREAS, The dedication, hard work, and untold hours of

       1-18     volunteer service by these remarkable individuals has helped

       1-19     ensure that the City of Midland is able to provide for its

       1-20     people; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, The United Way of Midland board of directors and

       1-22     the hardworking volunteers are to be commended for their superb

       1-23     humanitarian efforts over the past five decades; now, therefore,

        2-1     be it

        2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-3     75th Legislature, hereby express its appreciation to the United

        2-4     Way of Midland for its exemplary contributions to the citizens

        2-5     of Midland and extend best wishes for continued success in its

        2-6     future endeavors; and, be it further

        2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-8     the excellent organization as an expression of the high regard

        2-9     of the Texas Senate.
