1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 551

        1-2           WHEREAS, El Dia del Nino, the annual festival dedicated to

        1-3     children, will be celebrated at the Jaycee/Zaragoza Park in Dallas

        1-4     on April 26, 1997; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, Replete with a kick-off parade, youth entertainment,

        1-6     pinata breaking, clowns, games, prizes, music, and food booths, the

        1-7     event is eagerly anticipated by children of all ages; and

        1-8           WHEREAS, A traditional celebration throughout Latin America

        1-9     as well as in Dallas, the Dia del Nino festival helps initiate the

       1-10     Cinco de Mayo activities in the area; and

       1-11           WHEREAS, The Hispanic culture-based event is supported by

       1-12     local merchants who contribute products and prizes, and community

       1-13     organizations provide volunteers throughout the day; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, Cosponsored by the Dallas Parks and Recreation

       1-15     Department and the Jaycee Zaragoza Advisory Council, the colorful

       1-16     festival brings youngsters together in a fun-filled setting to

       1-17     display their talents and to enjoy that special time of life

       1-18     called childhood; now, therefore, be it

       1-19           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

       1-20     75th Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to all those who

       1-21     participate in El Dia del Nino for a most delightful celebration;

       1-22     and, be it further

       1-23           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as a

        2-1     memento of the outstanding event from the Texas Senate.
