1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 561 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride 1-4 in recognizing Richard Ferlauto on his recent selection for a 1-5 position in the newly created Office of Investment of the 1-6 AFL-CIO; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Richard Ferlauto has worked for nearly six years 1-8 at the Center for Alternatives in Washington, D.C., a nonprofit, 1-9 nonpartisan agency for progressive state leaders that serves as 1-10 a central resource on a broad range of economic, social, and 1-11 environmental issues; and 1-12 WHEREAS, As the center's co-policy director, Mr. Ferlauto 1-13 has managed the organization's work in the areas of community 1-14 capital, sustainable development, and telecommunications; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A highly respected expert on the financing issues 1-16 of child-care facilities, Rich Ferlauto frequently speaks at 1-17 educational seminars and national conferences; he has served as 1-18 an advisor to the Government Accounting Office, the Department 1-19 of Housing and Urban Development, and the Department of 1-20 Labor regarding economically targeted investment issues; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Mr. Ferlauto formerly was the Special Projects 1-22 Director at the American Affordable Housing Institute at Rutgers, 1-23 the State University of New Jersey; he is the author of two books, 2-1 A New Housing Policy for America: Recapturing the American Dream 2-2 and Employer-Assisted Housing: Benefit for the 1990s; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Mr. Ferlauto's articles have appeared in such 2-4 national publications as The Journal of Housing and 2-5 Christian Science Monitor; he is frequently quoted in such 2-6 national media as the Wall Street Journal and 2-7 The Washington Post; and 2-8 WHEREAS, At the AFL-CIO, Mr. Ferlauto will help to guide 2-9 an endeavor to preserve the economic rights of employees and to 2-10 create high wage jobs in low-income and moderate-income communities 2-11 through new financial initiatives; and 2-12 WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished gentleman, 2-13 Richard Ferlauto brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to 2-14 his position with the Office of Investment of the AFL-CIO, and 2-15 his expertise will undoubtedly prove to be a major asset to this 2-16 new department; now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-18 75th Legislature, hereby extend appreciation to Richard Ferlauto 2-19 on his years of loyal service at the Center for Policy Alternatives 2-20 and extend congratulations to him on his new position with the 2-21 Office of Investment at the AFL-CIO; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-23 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-24 Ellis 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 President of the Senate 3-1 I hereby certify that the above 3-2 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-3 on April 23, 1997. 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 Secretary of the Senate 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 Member, Texas Senate
