1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 562 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in 1-3 recognizing Tara Lipinski of Sugar Land, Texas, who recently 1-4 became the youngest winner of the World Figure Skating Championship 1-5 in Lausanne, Switzerland, on March 22, 1997; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Before the competition began, it looked as if 1-7 Tara had only a small chance of winning the world competition; 1-8 she was competing against a field of women who were older and more 1-9 experienced; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Tara's most serious contender was Michelle Kwan, 1-11 last year's champion and fellow American skater; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Tara skated her long program, and her jumps 1-13 definitely added spice to her performance; she is the only woman 1-14 in the world to successfully execute a triple loop-triple loop 1-15 combination jump; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Completing an amazing six weeks in which she had 1-17 won the United States National Championship and the finals of the 1-18 champions series, Miss Lipinski capped her efforts by winning the 1-19 world championship, and she brings great honor to her community, 1-20 the State of Texas, and her country; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-22 75th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Tara Lipinski, 1-23 the newest and youngest woman to win the World Figure Skating 2-1 Championship; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-3 Miss Lipinski as an expression of the highest esteem and regard 2-4 of the Texas Senate. 2-5 Ellis 2-6 ______________________________________ 2-7 President of the Senate 2-8 I hereby certify that the above 2-9 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-10 on April 23, 1997. 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Secretary of the Senate 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Member, Texas Senate
