1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 563 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing the National Association of Yoruba Descendants on 1-4 the occasion of its Fifth International Convention, which takes 1-5 place April 26, 1997, in Houston; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The National Association of Yoruba Descendants is 1-7 a nonprofit organization incorporated in the United States with a 1-8 chapter in Houston, Texas; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The motto of the organization is unity, integrity, 1-10 and dedication, and its chief mission is to bring Africans in the 1-11 diaspora together in order to advocate economic development, 1-12 cultural unity, and racial harmony; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The Fifth International Convention's keynote 1-14 speaker will be Dr. Anthony Olu Enahoro, C.F.R., the legendary 1-15 Pan Africanist and writer; Dr. Enahoro is a well-known Nigerian 1-16 citizen and the first person to advocate the independence of 1-17 African countries from European colonialism and British 1-18 imperialism; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The convention will also feature a business 1-20 symposium on corporate investment opportunities in America, 1-21 cultural performances, and entertainment; the convention takes 1-22 place at the Royal Hall Conference Center; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 75th Legislature, hereby commend the National Association 2-2 of Yoruba Descendants on its many contributions to the African 2-3 community in this country and extend best wishes for an enjoyable 2-4 and productive Fifth International Convention; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-6 association as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-7 Ellis 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the above 2-11 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-12 on April 23, 1997. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
