1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 567 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing 1-4 the Texas Nameplate Company on the occasion of its being named 1-5 the recipient of the Texas Business of the Year Award by the 1-6 Texas Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The award was presented at a special ceremony at 1-8 the Texas Nameplate main facility in downtown Dallas on Friday, 1-9 April 25, 1997; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Business and Chambers of 1-11 Commerce chose Texas Nameplate Company over 18 other applicants, 1-12 many of whom are familiar names; the choices were based on the 1-13 company's commitment to its employees, quality development, 1-14 employee education, and community involvement; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Texas Nameplate Company provides the 1-16 identification labels seen on all types of products from computer 1-17 equipment and refrigerators to high pressure valves; the nameplates 1-18 also help identify potentially dangerous situations and equipment 1-19 and provide information to the public not generally found during 1-20 the life of the product; and 1-21 WHEREAS, With the advent of World War II, demand for 1-22 military equipment and weaponry increased drastically; every item 1-23 needed identification and information plates that would withstand 2-1 punishing conditions in the sea, on land, or in the air; and 2-2 WHEREAS, After the end of the war, Wallace Steineger, 2-3 Tom Hampton, and Roy Crownover chartered and began the operation 2-4 of the Texas Nameplate Company at its first location in Dallas; 2-5 and 2-6 WHEREAS, The business did well and in three years moved 2-7 to a 3,500 square foot facility; the physical plant was damaged 2-8 but the company survived and 10 years later the company moved its 2-9 operations to a 17,000 square foot building south of downtown 2-10 Dallas; in August, 1996, further expansion was necessary; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Nameplates are crafted from various common 2-12 materials such as vinyl, stainless steel, brass, aluminum, and 2-13 polycarbonates; most of the identification plates are made through 2-14 etching and used on products such as electronic and computer 2-15 equipment, oil field equipment, valves, and vehicles; today some 2-16 of the nameplates are produced through screen printing and others 2-17 through photo engraving; and 2-18 WHEREAS, Texas Nameplate Company today has 63 employees, 2-19 and most of the employees have been with the company five or more 2-20 years; a nonunionized company, its employees feel a strong sense 2-21 of personal ownership and responsibility; now, therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-23 75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Texas Nameplate Company 2-24 on its winning the Texas Business of the Year Award and wish the 2-25 company every success in the future; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 3-2 the Texas Nameplate Company as an expression of the warmest regard 3-3 of the Texas Senate. 3-4 Nelson 3-5 ______________________________________ 3-6 President of the Senate 3-7 I hereby certify that the above 3-8 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-9 on April 23, 1997. 3-10 ______________________________________ 3-11 Secretary of the Senate 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 Member, Texas Senate
