1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 573 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing 1-3 the Dimmit students who went to the state competition in the 1-4 Odyssey of the Mind; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A cocurricular and extracurricular school program 1-6 presently operating in more than 4,000 schools throughout the 1-7 world, Odyssey of the Mind combines the excitement of an 1-8 athletic competition with fun-filled mental gymnastics for 1-9 young people; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Founded by two New Jersey educators, Odyssey of the 1-11 Mind mental games can be played with the same competitive spirit 1-12 and enthusiasm as physical games; the emphasis in these mental 1-13 exercises is on creativity, and creative problem solving is 1-14 stressed; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Accolades go to the Dimmit High School and Dimmit 1-16 Junior High School teams that won first place in their division 1-17 and will be representing their schools in Baltimore, Maryland; 1-18 and 1-19 WHEREAS, The team members of the Classics Division II 1-20 were Kelsey Welch, Alexis Proffitt, Rae Odom, Cliff Wright, 1-21 Jill Merritt, Ryan Hays, and Thomas Brockman; they were expertly 1-22 coached by Kim Hays and Brenda Welch; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The Double-Trouble Structure Division II team 2-1 members were Daniel Proffitt, Joshua Hardwick, Lori Schulte, 2-2 Kylie Webb, and Cherie Norman, and all were coached masterfully 2-3 by Wayne Proffitt and Paula Proffitt; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The members of the Double-Trouble Structure Division 2-5 III team consisted of Michael Keith, Timothy Proffitt, Andy Hill, 2-6 Jared Townsend, Jason Hall, Jeremy Mathews, and Jason Hargrove; 2-7 their inspiring coaches were Pat Keith and Wayne Proffitt; and 2-8 WHEREAS, The Dimmit Middle School deserves congratulations 2-9 also for coming in fourth at the state level; now, therefore, be 2-10 it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 75th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the success of the 2-13 Dimmit students; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-15 Dimmit schools as an expression of the highest regard and esteem 2-16 of the Texas Senate. 2-17 Bivins 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 President of the Senate 2-20 I hereby certify that the above 2-21 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-22 on April 23, 1997. 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Secretary of the Senate 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 Member, Texas Senate
