1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 576 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing El Paso Community College on the excellent educational 1-4 services it provides El Paso County residents; and 1-5 WHEREAS, For the past 25 years, El Paso Community College has 1-6 served over one million El Paso County residents; offering a wide 1-7 array of courses, from English, mathematics, and science to plastic 1-8 injection molding, welding, and nursing, the college has received 1-9 large grants from the United States Department of Education for 1-10 its exemplary programs; and 1-11 WHEREAS, A first-rate institution, El Paso Community College 1-12 has earned national recognition for its curriculum development, 1-13 staff training, assessment and evaluation, workforce training, 1-14 and English as a Second Language and literacy training; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The college recently received a $1.1 million 1-16 grant from the Texas Skills Development Fund to work with local 1-17 manufacturers who need to provide training for their employees; 1-18 the money is a tremendous asset to the El Paso economy and will 1-19 multiply many times over as the newly trained employees earn 1-20 better wages and new jobs are created; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The El Paso Community College employs nearly 3,000 1-22 faculty and staff members, and the local business volume generated 1-23 from the college exceeds $100 million annually; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Since April is National Community College Month, 2-2 it is appropriate to express today appreciation for the many 2-3 educational opportunities that El Paso Community College offers 2-4 the citizens of El Paso County; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-6 75th Legislature, hereby commend El Paso Community College on 2-7 its exceptional curriculum and on the many benefits it provides 2-8 our state; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-10 El Paso Community College as an expression of esteem from the 2-11 Texas Senate. 2-12 Shapleigh 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 President of the Senate 2-15 I hereby certify that the above 2-16 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-17 on April 24, 1997. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 Secretary of the Senate 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Member, Texas Senate
