1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 577

        1-2           WHEREAS, The El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was recently

        1-3     named National Hispanic Chamber of the Year, and the Texas Senate

        1-4     is pleased to extend congratulations to the organization for its

        1-5     outstanding achievements; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, At the Sixth Annual Installation Banquet held on

        1-7     February 1, 1997, the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was

        1-8     honored by the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce for its

        1-9     contributions in creating and fostering the growth of Hispanic

       1-10     businesses; and

       1-11           WHEREAS, Incorporated on January 8, 1990, the El Paso Hispanic

       1-12     Chamber of Commerce has successfully worked to provide the Hispanic

       1-13     business community with support and encouragement by initiating

       1-14     positive programs and policies; and

       1-15           WHEREAS, It has represented the needs and issues of Hispanic

       1-16     and other small businesses in the city, and its leadership is

       1-17     essential to the continued success of the small business community;

       1-18     and

       1-19           WHEREAS, It was a banner year for the chamber; in addition to

       1-20     the national award, the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce was

       1-21     also presented the Regional and State Hispanic Chamber of the Year

       1-22     awards by the Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of

       1-23     Commerce; and

        2-1           WHEREAS, Over the past six years, the chamber has experienced

        2-2     phenomenal growth and its members have worked cooperatively with

        2-3     other civic organizations to promote the City of El Paso; now,

        2-4     therefore, be it

        2-5           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-6     75th Legislature, hereby commend the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of

        2-7     Commerce on its notable contributions to the citizens of El Paso

        2-8     and extend best wishes for continued success in the future; and,

        2-9     be it further

       2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

       2-11     El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce as an expression of the high

       2-12     regard of the Texas Senate.
