        1-2           WHEREAS, The Haddad family first came to El Paso in 1930

        1-3     as hardworking immigrants, eager to seize the American dream; and

        1-4           WHEREAS, Najib Haddad and his wife, Julia, had six children;

        1-5     two sons, Maynard and Kenneth, also known to some as bunny, have

        1-6     graced the El Paso environs with wit, charm, and good looks for

        1-7     many decades; and

        1-8           WHEREAS, Maynard and Kenny have demonstrated that hard work,

        1-9     good chiles rellenos, and a healthy attitude toward city inspectors

       1-10     can propel even the humblest of Texans to the top of the business

       1-11     world; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, In 1958, the Haddad family opened the now world-famous

       1-13     H&H Carwash; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, This miracle of entrepreneurial talent has produced

       1-15     an internationally recognized dining establishment and classic

       1-16     vehicle washing techniques, heralded in countless expensive

       1-17     publications; and

       1-18           WHEREAS, Many El Pasoans, old and young alike, both start

       1-19     and finish their days at the H&H and are better off for it,

       1-20     despite certain health hazards inherent in cholesterol

       1-21     consumption; and

       1-22           WHEREAS, In defying standard business practices, and despite

       1-23     the teaching of Ayn Rand, in whom both profess to believe, the

        2-1     aforementioned entrepreneurs have successfully eaten a lot of

        2-2     their business inventory and still managed to make a profit,

        2-3     bowl, and attend Friday afternoon board meetings with their

        2-4     "directors"; and

        2-5           WHEREAS, This classic blend of business practices deserves

        2-6     the honors and accolades it has received over the decades and

        2-7     deserves the attention of the Texas Senate; now, therefore, be

        2-8     it

        2-9           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

       2-10     75th Legislature, hereby honor Kenneth and Maynard Haddad and

       2-11     declare the H&H Carwash as an official El Paso institution; and,

       2-12     be it further

       2-13           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

       2-14     the Haddad brothers as an expression of the high regard of the

       2-15     Texas Senate.
