 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 581

 1-3           WHEREAS, On April 1, 1997, Donald Alden Buchholz retired from

 1-4     the Dallas County Community College District Board of Trustees

 1-5     after 19 years of esteemed service; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Mr. Buchholz was elected to the board in 1978 as a

 1-7     representative of District 3, and he twice served as chairman, from

 1-8     1982 to 1984 and from 1990 to 1992; during his years of service,

 1-9     the board implemented a number of progressive programs, including

1-10     the associate nursing degree, the dental assistant program, and the

1-11     robotics program; and

1-12           WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of North Texas and a

1-13     certified public accountant, this commendable gentleman has been an

1-14     invaluable member of the board; his financial expertise and service

1-15     as chairman of the audit committee, the planning and budget

1-16     committee, and the special committee to review and recommend

1-17     reporting procedures and related matters to the board of trustees

1-18     have enabled board members to make crucial decisions concerning the

1-19     district's movement toward the 21st century; and

1-20           WHEREAS, In addition to his longtime tenure in this capacity,

1-21     Mr. Buchholz is the chairman of Southwest Securities, Incorporated,

1-22     which he served as chief executive officer until his recent

1-23     retirement; he is an allied member and former governor of the New

 2-1     York Stock Exchange, and he has devoted a great deal of time to

 2-2     such organizations as Garland Bank and Trust, Garland Memorial

 2-3     Hospital, and the Board of Trustees of the Garland Independent

 2-4     School District; and

 2-5           WHEREAS, Although his leadership will be missed by the

 2-6     members of the board, Mr. Buchholz's longtime service and

 2-7     commitment to his fellow citizens has assured his legacy in the

 2-8     Dallas community, and the members of the Senate are proud to join

 2-9     in honoring this extraordinary man at this time; now, therefore, be

2-10     it

2-11           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 75th

2-12     Legislature, hereby honor Donald Alden Buchholz on his retirement

2-13     from the Dallas County Community College District Board of Trustees

2-14     and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and

2-15     happiness in the years to come; and, be it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

2-17     prepared for Mr. Buchholz as an expression of high regard by the

2-18     Texas Senate.
