1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 583 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Glenn Boda Mills, Jr. 1-6 WHEREAS, The Texas Senate joins the citizens of 1-7 Dallas County in mourning the untimely loss of well-known civic 1-8 leader Glenn Boda Mills, Jr., who died April 19, 1997, at the 1-9 age of 48; and 1-10 WHEREAS, A man of strong principles who worked tirelessly 1-11 for the good of others, Mr. Mills will be remembered with gratitude 1-12 for his dedication to his family, his church, and his community; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, Born in Berkeley, California, on July 5, 1948, to 1-15 Glenn Boda and Edna Mills, Glenn received his early education in 1-16 the Oakland schools before moving to Giddings, Texas, in 1962; 1-17 after graduating from the local high school, he graduated from 1-18 Prairie View A&M University with a degree in political science; 1-19 and 1-20 WHEREAS, After his marriage to Earnestine Pratt on 1-21 June 16, 1970, Mr. Mills became the proud father of three children, 1-22 Tasha, Glenn Boda III, and Leonard Edrick; the couple moved to 1-23 Dallas in August, 1970, and became members of Mount Carmel Baptist 2-1 Church; a charter member of the Concord Missionary Baptist Church 2-2 in 1975, Glenn was ordained a deacon and faithfully served the 2-3 congregation until his death; and 2-4 WHEREAS, For more than 20 years, Mr. Mills was employed by the 2-5 Office of the State Comptroller of Public Accounts, where he earned 2-6 the respect and confidence of his colleagues in the performance of 2-7 his duties as an enforcement officer; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Elected to the Wilmer Hutchins School Board in 1980, 2-9 Glenn Mills served with distinction as a trustee and as board 2-10 president; he worked to provide a quality education for all the 2-11 students in the Wilmer Hutchins school district; among his notable 2-12 accomplishments were the construction of the Wilmer Hutchins High 2-13 School and the creation and implementation of a three-year-old head 2-14 start program; and 2-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Mills was actively involved in numerous 2-16 organizations; a coach of a community football team, he became a 2-17 role model and father figure in the Wilmer Hutchins and Lancaster 2-18 communities; and 2-19 WHEREAS, Glenn leaves a legacy of compassion and commitment 2-20 that will continue to inspire others; he will be deeply missed by 2-21 his family and all who benefitted from his accomplishments; now, 2-22 therefore, be it 2-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-24 75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family 2-25 of Glenn Boda Mills, Jr.: his wife, Earnestine, and his children, 3-1 Tasha, Glenn, and Leonard; and, be it further 3-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his 3-3 family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, 3-4 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 3-5 Glenn Boda Mills, Jr. 3-6 West 3-7 ______________________________________ 3-8 President of the Senate 3-9 I hereby certify that the above 3-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-11 on April 24, 1997, by a rising vote. 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 Secretary of the Senate 3-14 ______________________________________ 3-15 Member, Texas Senate
