1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 588 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing 1-4 the Camino Real Seven Point Charities, Incorporated, on the 1-5 momentous occasion of its Camino Real Three-Day Event in 1-6 Buffalo, Texas, on May 23 through 25, 1997; and 1-7 WHEREAS, The Camino Real Seven Point Charities is a 1-8 Christian-owned and operated corporation whose event will generate 1-9 funds that will benefit the Buffalo Library, Leon County Emergency 1-10 Services, the Edna Gladney Foundation, Paws for Caring, the Texas 1-11 Veterinary Medical Foundation, the United States Combined Training 1-12 Association, and the North American Riding for the Handicapped 1-13 Association; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Combined training in equestrian sports is somewhat 1-15 like the triathlon is to track and field sports; a combination of 1-16 different competitions designed to test the ability of the horse 1-17 and the rider, the sport is practiced at Horse Trials or Events 1-18 scheduled to last for a period of one, two, or three days; and 1-19 WHEREAS, In combined training, separate tests measure the 1-20 ability of each horse and rider team, and the scores are added 1-21 together to reach the final result; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The tests in this sport include dressage, 1-23 cross-country, stadium jumping, steeplechase, and roads and 2-1 tracks; dressage is a complex type of riding in which horse 2-2 and rider perform a series of prescribed movements from memory; 2-3 each movement is rated as well as the overall artistic impression; 2-4 and 2-5 WHEREAS, Cross-country and stadium jumping are two competitions 2-6 which judge the obedience and the strength, speed, and endurance of 2-7 both the horse and the rider; scoring in cross-country is based on 2-8 jumping faults, and penalties bring down the score; the scoring in 2-9 stadium jumping is the same as cross-country; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Steeplechase and roads and tracks test the speed 2-11 and endurance of the horse and rider; the steeplechase is a 2-12 1,920-meter course over six obstacles and is run against the 2-13 clock, incurring penalties for going beyond the allotted time; 2-14 roads and tracks is also designed to be run against the clock, 2-15 with penalties being incurred for going over the time allowed; 2-16 now, therefore, be it 2-17 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-18 75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Camino Real Seven Point 2-19 Charities, Incorporated, on holding this exciting three-day event 2-20 and wish the organization every success; and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-22 Camino Real Seven Point Charities as an expression of the high 2-23 regard of the Texas Senate. 2-24 Ogden 2-25 ______________________________________ 2-26 President of the Senate 3-1 I hereby certify that the above 3-2 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-3 on April 28, 1997. 3-4 ______________________________________ 3-5 Secretary of the Senate 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 Member, Texas Senate
