1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 603 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing the City of Southlake on the grand occasion of its 1-4 40th birthday; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The City of Southlake, located northeast of 1-6 Fort Worth, was organized in 1956 and turned 40 years old 1-7 in September of 1996; the upcoming event planned in honor of 1-8 the city's birthday is a fair, which will be held in conjunction 1-9 with the annual Kite Festival on May 3, 1997; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Southlake is a thriving community with a population 1-11 at 14,950 in 1996; that same year, 90 new businesses opened and 1-12 408,582 square feet of new commercial space was added to the city; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, There are 6,000 people working in Southlake, and 1-15 the five largest Southlake employers are AMR Sabre Group/SDT, 1-16 Carroll Independent School District, Wal-Mart, City of Southlake, 1-17 and Mesco Metal Buildings; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Southlake offers the opportunities of a fast growing 1-19 community, yet its charm and natural beauty have been preserved 1-20 in the face of new development, and its residents and city staff 1-21 deserve to be proud of their guidelines and planning; now, therefore, 1-22 be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 75th Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Southlake on 2-2 the many assets of their city and extend to them best wishes for 2-3 an enjoyable birthday celebration on May 3, 1997; and, be it further 2-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-5 City of Southlake as an expression of regard from the Texas Senate. 2-6 Nelson 2-7 ______________________________________ 2-8 President of the Senate 2-9 I hereby certify that the above 2-10 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-11 on April 29, 1997. 2-12 ______________________________________ 2-13 Secretary of the Senate 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 Member, Texas Senate
