1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 608

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

        1-3     recognize Langston G. Knowles for his exceptional contributions

        1-4     to the students of Booker T. Washington High School in Houston

        1-5     throughout the past 40 years; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, The oldest black high school in the city,

        1-7     Booker T. Washington High School will honor Mr. Knowles with a

        1-8     special banquet on May 2, 1997, for his dedicated service to the

        1-9     school and to the community; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, The students at Booker T. Washington High School

       1-11     have benefitted immeasurably from the caring spirit of this dynamic

       1-12     educator who has given generously of his time and abilities; and

       1-13           WHEREAS, An enthusiastic instructor and leader, Mr. Knowles

       1-14     instills in his students a sense of pride, a love of learning, and

       1-15     the skills they need for being successful, productive citizens;

       1-16     and

       1-17           WHEREAS, In addition to his exemplary work in the classroom,

       1-18     Mr. Knowles has made many valuable contributions to the citizens

       1-19     of Houston; he has become a role model for countless young men;

       1-20     and

       1-21           WHEREAS, The students, administrators, and faculty of

       1-22     Booker T. Washington High School have been fortunate to have had

       1-23     such a caring teacher who has devoted his life to the educational

        2-1     profession; now, therefore, be it

        2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-3     75th Legislature, hereby commend Langston G. Knowles for his

        2-4     notable accomplishments in the field of education and extend best

        2-5     wishes to him for continued success in the years ahead; and, be it

        2-6     further

        2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-8     Mr. Knowles as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
