 1-2                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 618

 1-3           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

 1-4     recognize Eddye M. Denmon for her notable contributions to the

 1-5     child care development industry; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, Owner and director of Denmon Montessori and Child

 1-7     Care in Houston, Mrs. Denmon is being honored by her family and

 1-8     friends on May 3, 1997, for her 35 years of devoted service to

 1-9     those placed in her care; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Her commitment to the welfare and education of

1-11     young children has earned her the gratitude and respect of

1-12     parents, teachers, and community leaders; and

1-13           WHEREAS, After graduating from Jack Yates High School in

1-14     1950, Eddye began pursuing her dream to become a fashion designer

1-15     by studying at the School of Fashion Design in New York City until

1-16     her family needed her at home; she returned to Houston, graduated

1-17     from the Erma Hughes School of Business, and became an insurance

1-18     adjuster in the business department at Saint Elizabeth Hospital; and

1-19           WHEREAS, She married Omar Denmon, Jr., in 1956, and, after

1-20     the arrival of their first child, Mrs. Denmon began searching for

1-21     a suitable child care facility; not finding what she was looking

1-22     for in the Sunnyside Area, Eddye began taking care of three children

1-23     in her home; when her second child was born in 1962, the young mother

 2-1     started a licensed day care operation; and

 2-2           WHEREAS, The wonderful gifts she has imparted to children have

 2-3     enriched their lives and prepared them for adulthood; her commitment

 2-4     to nurturing and instructing the very young has given the children

 2-5     a sense of self-esteem and well-being; and

 2-6           WHEREAS, Her love for children is reflected in her devotion

 2-7     to their needs and to her contributions to the community; she has

 2-8     continued her quest for knowledge throughout her career and has

 2-9     memberships in several state and national organizations, including

2-10     the Texas Association of Child Care Administrators, America

2-11     Montessori Society, and the National Association for the Education

2-12     of Children; now, therefore, be

2-13           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-14     75th Legislature, hereby commend Eddye M. Denmon for her

2-15     exceptional accomplishments in the field of education and child

2-16     care and extend best wishes to her for continued success; and, be

2-17     it further

2-18           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her

2-19     as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
