1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 626

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Lone Star State is internationally known as

        1-3     the home of a rich and varied musical heritage and of countless

        1-4     world-class musicians, and the members of the Lubbock Christian

        1-5     High School Band have upheld these proud traditions by taking top

        1-6     honors in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools

        1-7     State Band Competition held at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene

        1-8     on April 12, 1997; and

        1-9           WHEREAS, Accomplished and versatile players, the 40 members

       1-10     of the Lubbock Christian High School Band placed first in both the

       1-11     Class 4-A Overall Instrumental competition and in the event's jazz

       1-12     band division, and their dual achievement is eloquent testimony to

       1-13     their great skill and dedication; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, The demanding discipline of music requires not only

       1-15     a commitment to mastering fundamental skills but also a willingness

       1-16     to seek out and explore the sources of artistic creativity, and the

       1-17     musicians who enrich our lives by undertaking this difficult but

       1-18     rewarding work are indeed worthy of our heartfelt gratitude and

       1-19     admiration; and

       1-20           WHEREAS, Through their recent achievements, the talented

       1-21     musicians of the Lubbock Christian High School Band have made

       1-22     their mark on the state's musical history even while distinguishing

       1-23     themselves as outstanding performers of promise; now, therefore, be

        2-1     it

        2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-3     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate the members of the Lubbock

        2-4     Christian High School Band on their accomplishments at the 1997

        2-5     Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools State Band

        2-6     Competition and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued

        2-7     success in the future; and, be it further

        2-8           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be

        2-9     prepared for display at Lubbock Christian High School as an

       2-10     expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
