1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 627

        1-2           WHEREAS, Antonia Chavez de Serrano, owner of Jalisco's

        1-3     restaurant in south El Paso, has provided a popular eating

        1-4     establishment for those who work in the downtown area for over

        1-5     40 years; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, A native of Los Azules, Mexico, Antonia came to

        1-7     the United States and worked for her godmother at Jalisco's over

        1-8     50 years ago; after obtaining legal resident status in 1955, she

        1-9     purchased the restaurant and continued to provide quality food

       1-10     and a pleasant environment for her patrons; and

       1-11           WHEREAS, An enterprising and industrious owner, Antonia lives

       1-12     in a two-bedroom apartment off the restaurant, where she raised

       1-13     many nieces and nephews who lived with her through the years; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, The mother of one daughter who works in the

       1-15     restaurant, Antonia also has three adopted sons; she is a

       1-16     compassionate person who freely gives of herself to help others;

       1-17     and

       1-18           WHEREAS, An exemplary individual, Antonia Chavez de Serrano

       1-19     is admired by her friends and family for her courage and fortitude

       1-20     in overcoming difficult obstacles in her life; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, Her resourcefulness and diligence have provided her

       1-22     with a good income that she has selflessly shared with her family,

       1-23     and she has established a highly respected business for the citizens

        2-1     of El Paso to return to again and again; now, therefore, be it

        2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-3     75th Legislature, hereby commend Antonia Chavez de Serrano for

        2-4     her contributions to the City of El Paso and extend best wishes

        2-5     to her for continued success in the years to come; and, be it

        2-6     further

        2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-8     Antonia Chavez de Serrano as an expression of the high regard of

        2-9     the Texas Senate.
