1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 635 1-3 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing 1-4 Enoch Sevier Duncan for his many contributions to San Angelo and 1-5 Tom Green County; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Born in Johnson City, Tennessee, in 1920, 1-7 this honorable gentleman was educated in Jonesboro and at the 1-8 University of Tennessee; he earned a bachelor's degree; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A lifelong patriot, Mr. Duncan served his country 1-10 honorably as a pilot in the United States Army Air Corps from 1-11 1942 to 1945, and he won the Air Medal and three oak leaf 1-12 clusters; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Serving in the United States Foreign Service, 1-14 Mr. Duncan spent time in Beirut, Cairo, Kuwait, Amman, and 1-15 Baghdad; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A graduate of the National War College, 1-17 Enoch Duncan was cited for a distinguished paper at that 1-18 time; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Mr. Duncan graduated from the School of Advanced 1-20 International Studies, a branch of Johns Hopkins University, 1-21 after a year of intensive academic study of Arabic and advanced 1-22 international studies; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The State Department awarded Mr. Duncan a Superior 2-1 Honor Award in 1967; he and his beloved wife, Dorothy, retired 2-2 to San Angelo in 1974; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Because Enoch Duncan has been a lifelong Republican, 2-4 he plunged right in and began to organize a Republican Party in 2-5 San Angelo; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Mr. Duncan has served as Precinct Chairman, 2-7 Tom Green County Chairman, and Presidential Elector; he has 2-8 been a mentor, confidant, and recruiter for the party; now, 2-9 Tom Green County has a viable Republican Party, and most of the 2-10 credit goes to Enoch Sevier Duncan; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 75th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the significant 2-13 contributions made by Enoch Sevier Duncan to his community 2-14 and his state; and, be it further 2-15 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-16 Mr. Duncan as an expression of the highest regard of the 2-17 Texas Senate. 2-18 Wentworth 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 President of the Senate 2-21 I hereby certify that the above 2-22 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-23 on May 2, 1997. 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Secretary of the Senate 2-26 ______________________________________ 2-27 Member, Texas Senate
