 1-4                                     of

 1-5                             William R. Seltzer

 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens

 1-7     of Midland in mourning the death of William R. Seltzer, who died

 1-8     March 29, 1997, at the age of 75; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Born in Gainesville, Texas, on November 12, 1921,

1-10     Bill Seltzer graduated from Texas Christian University and Southern

1-11     Methodist University Law School; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps during

1-13     World War II, Bill served as a flight engineer in B-17s and helped

1-14     train B-17 air crews; honorably discharged in 1946, he earned the

1-15     American Campaign Medal, the Pacific Campaign Medal, and the

1-16     World War II Victory Medal; and

1-17           WHEREAS, Bill Seltzer and Joy Wallis were married on

1-18     August 29, 1941, in Cleburne, Texas; they moved to Midland

1-19     in 1950; and

1-20           WHEREAS, Bill was dedicated to his work with Richardson and

1-21     Bass Oil Company and worked for various Bass organizations for

1-22     25 years; and

1-23           WHEREAS, Mr. Seltzer became an Independent Landman and an oil

 2-1     and gas investor after his employment with the Bass organizations;

 2-2     and

 2-3           WHEREAS, One who enjoyed the fellowship of his peers, he was a

 2-4     member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen, a director

 2-5     and member of the Permian Basin Landmens Association, a member of

 2-6     the State Bar of Texas, and the Midland County Bar Association; and

 2-7           WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he

 2-8     gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth,

 2-9     and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; and

2-10           WHEREAS, Bill Seltzer was a devoted husband, father, and

2-11     grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured

2-12     forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it

2-13           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

2-14     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the

2-15     family of William R. Seltzer:  his wife, Joy Seltzer; his children,

2-16     Shauna Lee Redwine and Charles Wallis Seltzer; his sister, Lee Petty;

2-17     his brother, Michael Seltzer; and his five grandchildren; and, be it

2-18     further

2-19           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared

2-20     for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the

2-21     Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do

2-22     so in memory of Bill Seltzer.
