1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 647

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing

        1-3     Michael Garrett Gibson, who was recognized as an outstanding

        1-4     African American student at the annual Austin Independent School

        1-5     District African American Heritage Recognition and Awards Program;

        1-6     and

        1-7           WHEREAS, Held on February 16, 1997, the awards ceremony

        1-8     highlighted achievements by students and adults who represent the

        1-9     highest ideals of African American life and culture; the student

       1-10     award winners were presented with a medallion to commemorate the

       1-11     occasion; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, Michael Garrett Gibson is a student at Murchison

       1-13     Middle School who has demonstrated excellent athletic ability,

       1-14     academic achievement, good citizenship, and wholehearted

       1-15     participation in school organizations; and

       1-16           WHEREAS, A popular student, Michael is respected and liked

       1-17     by his classmates; and

       1-18           WHEREAS, The family and friends of this intelligent and

       1-19     talented student are justly proud of his achievements; he has

       1-20     brought honor to himself, his school, and his family; and

       1-21           WHEREAS, The accomplishments of our state's young

       1-22     citizens are a source of pride for all Texans, and Michael

       1-23     is truly deserving of legislative recognition for his notable

        2-1     accomplishments; now, therefore, be it

        2-2           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-3     75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Michael Garrett Gibson

        2-4     on his selection as an outstanding African American student;

        2-5     and, be it further

        2-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-7     Michael Garrett Gibson as an expression of the highest esteem

        2-8     of the Texas Senate.
