1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 649

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to

        1-3     extend congratulations to Laura Burgess who has been selected for

        1-4     recognition at the 1996-1997 Texas Career and Technology Education

        1-5     Awards Program on May 9, 1997; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Texas Career and Technology Council

        1-7     and Vocational-Technical Education Development Foundation of Texas,

        1-8     the statewide awards program identifies and recognizes outstanding

        1-9     achievements by students in career and technology education; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, A finalist in the Outstanding Health Science

       1-11     Technology Student category, Laura Burgess is a senior at Klein Oak

       1-12     High School in Klein, Texas, where she is planning a career in the

       1-13     health care field; and

       1-14           WHEREAS, An excellent student who is highly motivated and

       1-15     goal-oriented, Laura has spent 15 months in the health science

       1-16     technology program, where she has worked diligently to learn her

       1-17     course work and accepted extra responsibilities and opportunities

       1-18     for additional hands-on experience in a clinical environment; and

       1-19           WHEREAS, Recognized for her superior leadership qualities

       1-20     by her peers and teachers alike, Laura is president of the local

       1-21     chapter of H.O.S.A. and was selected to represent her high school

       1-22     at Girls State, where she was elected mayor of her city; her

       1-23     enthusiasm and motivation to achieve inspire her fellow students;

        2-1     a mature individual who deeply loves children, Laura has aspirations

        2-2     of being a pediatrician; now, therefore, be it

        2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-4     75th Legislature, hereby commend Laura Burgess for being an

        2-5     Outstanding Health Science Technology Student finalist and extend

        2-6     best wishes to her in her future endeavors; and, be it further

        2-7           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her

        2-8     as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
