1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 652 1-3 In Memory 1-4 of 1-5 Jabe Brazzle, Jr. 1-6 WHEREAS, The passing of Jabe Brazzle, Jr., on 1-7 February 24, 1997, at the age of 67, has brought a great loss 1-8 to the family and many friends of the distinguished Texan; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Born July 26, 1929, in Cleburne, Mr. Brazzle was 1-10 graduated from Texas College; he married the former Jesse Bibles 1-11 on September 10, 1952, and the couple nurtured a happy and 1-12 fulfilling union that spanned 44 years; they were blessed with 1-13 two children, Jabe III and Gina Rachele; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Brazzle was well regarded as an educator and 1-15 coach who pioneered integration in the Vernon school system; a 1-16 former classroom teacher, he began his coaching career at 1-17 Booker T. Washington High School in 1954, and throughout the 1-18 years, he served as a positive role model to countless young 1-19 Texans; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A former minor league baseball player, he shared 1-21 his knowledge and enthusiasm for that sport with his students when 1-22 he developed the baseball program at Vernon High School in 1975, 1-23 and he inspired many young athletes to victory as head coach of the 2-1 varsity team until he retired in 1990; in recognition of his vast 2-2 contributions, the school's new baseball field will be named in 2-3 his honor; and 2-4 WHEREAS, This eminent Texan further served his community 2-5 as a director of the Vernon Housing Authority and the Boys Clubs 2-6 of Vernon and as an esteemed member of the Vernon Optimist Club 2-7 and the Masonic Lodge; his exceptional civic involvement brought 2-8 him well-deserved acclaim, for he was named the community's 2-9 Outstanding Citizen for 1988; and 2-10 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, he was sustained by a deep 2-11 faith as a devout member of First Baptist Church, where he was 2-12 active in the Seekers Sunday School class and the Celebration Choir; 2-13 and 2-14 WHEREAS, A man of great vision, Jabe Brazzle, Jr., left 2-15 an indelible mark on the community he was proud to call home, and 2-16 though he is gone from us now, his memory will surely endure in 2-17 the hearts and minds of all who knew and loved him; now, therefore, 2-18 be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-20 75th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of Jabe Brazzle, Jr., 2-21 and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: his 2-22 beloved wife, Jesse Brazzle; his daughter, Gina Brazzle Townsend; 2-23 his four sisters, Mary Bess Marshburn, Hazel King, Geneva Brazzle, 2-24 and Louise Davis; his grandson, Evan Isaiah Townsend; and to the 2-25 many other friends and relatives of this distinguished gentleman; 3-1 and, be it further 3-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 3-3 prepared for the members of his family as an expression of deepest 3-4 sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns 3-5 this day, it do so in memory of Jabe Brazzle, Jr. 3-6 Duncan 3-7 Armbrister Harris Patterson 3-8 Barrientos Haywood Ratliff 3-9 Bivins Lindsay Shapiro 3-10 Brown Lucio Shapleigh 3-11 Cain Luna Sibley 3-12 Carona Madla Truan 3-13 Ellis Moncrief Wentworth 3-14 Fraser Nelson West 3-15 Gallegos Nixon Whitmire 3-16 Galloway Ogden Zaffirini 3-17 Bullock, President of the Senate 3-18 ______________________________________ 3-19 President of the Senate 3-20 I hereby certify that the above 3-21 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-22 on May 12, 1997, by a rising vote. 3-23 ______________________________________ 3-24 Secretary of the Senate 3-25 ______________________________________ 3-26 Member, Texas Senate
