1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 665

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

        1-3     joining Americans across the country in recognition of the second

        1-4     annual Stand For Children, which takes place June 1, 1997; and

        1-5           WHEREAS, On June 1, Americans from all backgrounds will

        1-6     gather to take a Stand For Children by renewing their commitment

        1-7     to improving the quality of our children's lives; and

        1-8           WHEREAS, This year's Stand For Children day is focusing on

        1-9     making the health of our children the top priority for our

       1-10     families, our communities, and our nation; coalitions throughout

       1-11     the state will be advocating that this commitment begin on the

       1-12     local level where children and families live and work; and

       1-13           WHEREAS, Citizens, families, religious congregations,

       1-14     businesses, and cultural groups will gather to discuss children's

       1-15     health needs and solutions; issues regarding the welfare of our

       1-16     children include the expansion of immunization programs, violence

       1-17     in the communities, health insurance, preventable illnesses, and

       1-18     untreated vision and hearing problems; and

       1-19           WHEREAS, Stand For Children is an opportunity to raise the

       1-20     national consciousness about our children's health and to increase

       1-21     the numbers of children who are able to have healthy starts; now,

       1-22     therefore, be it

       1-23           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-1     75th Legislature, hereby encourage all Texans to join citizens

        2-2     throughout the nation in participating in activities in celebration

        2-3     of Stand For Children day and to become actively involved with

        2-4     programs that will improve the health of our children; and, be

        2-5     it further

        2-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in

        2-7     honor of Stand For Children day as an expression of esteem from

        2-8     the Texas Senate.
