 1-4                                     of

 1-5                               Shawn McMullan

 1-6           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the

 1-7     citizens of Iraan in mourning the untimely loss of Shawn McMullan,

 1-8     who died August 18, 1996, at the age of 26; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, A man of remarkable talent, Shawn McMullan became

1-10     one of the premier calf ropers in our country; ranked seventh in

1-11     the nation in calf roping in 1996, he made four appearances in

1-12     the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association National Finals Rodeo

1-13     in Las Vegas; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Shawn spent most of his time traveling the rodeo

1-15     circuit and was noted for his success at rodeo events he regularly

1-16     attended in San Antonio, Houston, and Calgary; he also participated

1-17     in the prestigious Cheyenne rodeo; and

1-18           WHEREAS, In recognition of Shawn's exceptional accomplishments

1-19     as a calf roper, the City of Iraan declared December 3, 1993, as

1-20     Shawn McMullan Day; and

1-21           WHEREAS, An exemplary young man, Shawn McMullan was respected

1-22     for his many achievements and was beloved by his family, the

1-23     citizens of Iraan, and his colleagues in rodeo; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Shawn McMullan will long be remembered for his

 2-2     tremendous enthusiasm and for his integrity, strength, and

 2-3     generosity; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Shawn McMullan lived his life to the fullest, and he

 2-5     leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family

 2-6     and many friends; now, therefore, be it

 2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

 2-8     75th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved

 2-9     family of Shawn McMullan:  his parents, Kenny and Glenda McMullan;

2-10     his sister, Mecca Jo McMullan; and his grandmothers, Dorothy Friend

2-11     and Laura McMullan; and, be it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

2-13     the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from

2-14     the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do

2-15     so in memory of Shawn McMullan.
