1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 688

        1-2           WHEREAS, The notable accomplishments of our young people are

        1-3     a source of pride for all Texans, and the Texas Senate is proud to

        1-4     recognize Claudia Y. Santos for her important contributions to her

        1-5     community; and

        1-6           WHEREAS, A senior at Alexander High School in Laredo, Claudia

        1-7     was recently selected Youth of the Year for the 1996-1997 school

        1-8     year; she was chosen to receive the top honor from among Youth of

        1-9     the Month winners at Laredo high schools; and

       1-10           WHEREAS, Throughout her high school years, Claudia

       1-11     has maintained a high scholastic average while participating

       1-12     in various activities; she has been a University Interscholastic

       1-13     League participant for three years and was vice president of her

       1-14     sophomore class; and

       1-15           WHEREAS, An outstanding student who works hard to achieve her

       1-16     goals, Claudia is a member of the National Honor Society; she was

       1-17     a participant in Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering in

       1-18     her junior year and is a Courtesy Service Club member; and

       1-19           WHEREAS, A compassionate and understanding person, Claudia

       1-20     finds personal satisfaction in volunteering her time to help those

       1-21     less fortunate; and

       1-22           WHEREAS, Her dedication to excellence and her desire to achieve

       1-23     have brought honor to herself, her family, and her school; a highly

        2-1     motivated young woman, Claudia is an exemplary leader who is a

        2-2     model for students of all ages; now, therefore, be it

        2-3           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-4     75th Legislature, hereby commend Claudia Y. Santos for being

        2-5     selected as the 1996-1997 Youth of the Year; and, be it further

        2-6           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for

        2-7     Claudia as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate

        2-8     with best wishes for continued success in all her endeavors.
