1-1                          SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 706

        1-2           WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in

        1-3     recognizing the Texas Lions Clubs on the occasion of the 1997

        1-4     Annual Texas Lions Multiple District 2 State Convention and

        1-5     Leadership Forum, which is being held May 29 through 31, 1997;

        1-6     and

        1-7           WHEREAS, The Lions Clubs of District 2-S3 are hosting the

        1-8     annual convention at the Renaissance Austin Hotel; the convention

        1-9     will feature the annual Diabetes Essay and Drug Awareness Speech

       1-10     Contest and a leadership forum as a training activity to promote

       1-11     development and volunteerism; and

       1-12           WHEREAS, Over the years, the members of the Texas Lions Clubs

       1-13     have raised funds for charitable causes and have given freely of

       1-14     their time to help the less fortunate; their programs include

       1-15     providing health-related services for children, maintaining multiple

       1-16     services for the blind and visually impaired, and organizing food

       1-17     drives for the needy; and

       1-18           WHEREAS, The Texas Lions Clubs are noted for their sponsorship

       1-19     of the Texas Lions Camp, where handicapped and diabetic children

       1-20     enjoy two weeks of recreational activities and rehabilitation free

       1-21     of charge; and

       1-22           WHEREAS, The members of the Texas Lions Clubs are also known

       1-23     for their significant contributions to sight preservation through

        2-1     the Lions Clubs International Sightfirst program and for their

        2-2     implementation of the Family Pathfinders program developed by

        2-3     State Comptroller John Sharp; and

        2-4           WHEREAS, Texas Lions have provided innumerable services

        2-5     to citizens across the state and truly exemplify the Lions

        2-6     International motto, "We Serve"; now, therefore, be it

        2-7           RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,

        2-8     75th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the Lions Clubs of

        2-9     Texas on their many accomplishments and extend appreciation to them

       2-10     for their dedication and hard work on behalf of the youths and

       2-11     citizens of the Lone Star State; and, be it further

       2-12           RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the

       2-13     Texas Lions as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
