1-1 1 1-2 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 713 1-3 WHEREAS, The Greenville Herald Banner will miss the wisdom 1-4 and expertise of Albert W. Vaughan, who is retiring after a 1-5 superlative career of more than 42 years with the newspaper; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Born in Houston 59 years ago, he has lived in 1-7 Greenville for 58 years; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The Greenville Herald Banner is having an open 1-9 house to honor Mr. Vaughan; a special recognition ceremony is 1-10 scheduled for Friday, May 16, 1997, at 6:00 p.m., and the paper 1-11 is declaring May 16, 1997, Albert W. Vaughan Day in Greenville; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Beginning his career as a carrier for the 1-13 Greenville Banner in 1950, Albert Vaughan became an employee 1-14 of the newspaper on November 5, 1955; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Mr. Vaughan has progressed 1-16 steadily to positions of greater responsibility; in 1960 he was 1-17 named circulation manager of the Banner; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Later becoming operations manager for the combined 1-19 Greenville Herald Banner, he has since served as publisher 1-20 and general manager; and 1-21 WHEREAS, A longtime member of the Texas Circulation Managers' 1-22 Association, Mr. Vaughan was president in 1982, and he has served 1-23 in every office of that organization; next year, he will become a 2-1 lifetime associate member; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Albert and his wife, Loretta, have two sons, David 2-3 and Dwayne, and three grandchildren, who have been the source of 2-4 much pride and joy; and 2-5 WHEREAS, An alumnus of East Texas State University, he 2-6 attended Greenville public schools, where a scholarship is being 2-7 established in his honor; he serves on the university's Journalism 2-8 Department Advisory Board; and 2-9 WHEREAS, A man of unquestioned ability and integrity, 2-10 Albert Vaughan set a high standard of professionalism, inspiring 2-11 others by his loyalty and dependability; and 2-12 WHEREAS, The perfect example of fairness, dedication, and 2-13 professionalism, Albert Vaughan truly deserves praise for his years 2-14 of loyalty and devotion to his newspaper; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-16 75th Legislature, hereby congratulate Albert W.
